Explore Native America Trip – Sequoyah’s Cabin & Spiro Mounds

Enjoy 2 special events in 2 special places.  Built in 1829 by Sequoyah, who developed the written alphabet for the Cherokee language, and enclosed in a protective native stone building in 1936, the cabin houses exhibits and artifacts of early Cherokee life, and items that reflect Sequoyah and his contribution to Oklahoma history and heritage. The cabin sits on a serene 10-acre park, where we’ll enjoy a delicious fried chicken picnic and other Sequoyah Day activities, before heading on to Spiro Mounds for World Archeology Day. Spiro Mounds is one of the most important American Indian sites in the nation.  They were created and used by Caddoan speaking Indians between 850 and 1450 AD in this area of eastern Oklahoma that was the seat of ancient Mississippian culture. There will be lectures and demonstrations in the museum and an optional guided walk (one mile) to the mounds.

Cost of this trip is $40 charged to your Trinity Woods account. RSVP on the Wellness Reservation form or via the Wellness Portal.
