Year One!

By Garrett Lee, New Trinity Woods CEO

May 6th marks the completion of my first year as the CEO of Trinity Woods. At the start of each new
year, I’m usually compelled by a ‘word’ or ‘phrase of the year’. This year, my word is ELEVATE. Often, the
word is inspired by events of the previous year.

Elevate has many meanings for me. The word elevate means to rise or to lift up. For example, I can
elevate my praise and adoration to God. What elevating means for Trinity Woods hits several areas.
While this list is not exhaustive and certainly other areas are noteworthy, these are areas that I believe
‘move the needle’ for Trinity Woods as we elevate in each of them:

Leadership – Pastor Craig Groeschel says, “when the leader gets better, everyone gets better.” We want
to elevate our leadership. We launched several initiatives to strengthen our leadership skills including the
restructuring of our employee training and meeting quarterly as a full management team.

Culture – The culture of our community is critical. Why? It is the component of community life that
most impacts the resident and employee experience and creates home. This is why we have prioritized
renewed energy around fostering a Culture of Courtesy in our organization. We must continue valuing
our diverse backgrounds and perspectives. What makes us different from each other makes us vibrant
and unique – that is culture. We must continue elevating our service standards, in order to deliver the
highest level of hospitality-minded customer service possible.

Growth – Organizations are like plants. If you aren’t growing, you’re dying. While growth does not always
necessarily involve ‘bricks and mortar,’ (which is the image most of us have in our minds), it can describe
the need to elevate in certain areas. For Trinity Woods, growth is one of the four main pillars of our
strategic plan. We want to grow in operational areas like service, financials, and membership. We also
know there are opportunities that do involve bricks and mortar for new buildings, and refurbishment.

So, as I reflect and think about the future, I elevate the type of leader I want and need to be; striving to
posture myself and our organization from a faith-filled place of servanthood. I look forward to serving in
such a way that continues to elevate Trinity Woods.

Blessings,
Garrett Lee, Trinity Woods CEO

Spring Fling!

By Alison McMilan, Wellness Manager

Every year as the weather warms, flowers bloom, and trees fill out with leaves, the Trinity Woods Wellness Team and the Wellness Advisory Council host an outdoor celebration for our community members to welcome warmer weather and foster connections.

With live music in the background, it’s easy to enjoy a delicious grilled hamburger or hot dog with tasty sides and toppings, and cool refreshing drinks while chatting and laughing with your friends under shade of the porte-cochere of the Community Life Center.

The fun continues with several entertaining lawn games to play like giant Connect 4, foam axe tossing, and more! Challenge your neighbor, try a new game, and enjoy soaking up the sun before the annual shuffleboard and cornhole tournaments start. Will the previous year’s winners defend their titles, or will a new team claim victory? There is only one way to find out! Join us for the Spring Fling held on
Thursday May 22nd!

New Dog Park to Open at Trinity Woods!

Trinity Woods is going to the dogs—in the best way possible! The community is thrilled to announce the
creation of a brand-new dog park, a vibrant space designed for residents and their furry companions to
enjoy together.

The fenced-in area features grassy patches, shaded benches, and plenty of room for dogs to run, play,
and socialize. It was created in response to resident feedback and a fundraising campaign.

“Our residents love their pets—they’re family,” said Garrett Lee, Trinity Woods CEO. “We wanted to create a safe, welcoming space where both residents and dogs can get fresh air, exercise, and connect with others.”

The dog park is scheduled to open in June. It will be open daily from sunrise to sunset and have a waste
station and water fountain. Watch for information about a ribbon-cutting ceremony. All are welcome to
attend.

With wagging tails and happy hearts, Trinity Woods continues its efforts to support an active, fulfilling
lifestyle for every resident—four-legged ones included.

Chosen for Greatness

By Weldon Tisdale, Chaplain

As we welcome the month of May, we are reminded of the abundant blessings and opportunities that God has placed before us. This month, we reflect on the profound truth that each of us is chosen for greatness. This theme is not just a motivational phrase but a divine calling that resonates deeply within our faith.

The Bible is filled with affirmations of our unique calling and purpose. One of the most powerful reminders comes from the Apostle Peter: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9) This verse highlights that we are not only chosen but also set apart for
a divine purpose. We are called to shine God’s light in the world, reflecting His glory through our actions and words.

Throughout the Bible, we see numerous examples of individuals who were chosen for greatness. Consider David, a shepherd boy who became a king, or Esther, an orphan who became a queen and saved her people. Their stories remind us that God often chooses the unlikely and the humble to
accomplish His grand purposes.

To live out your call of greatness:
Embrace Your Identity: Recognize that you are God’s special possession. Your worth and identity are rooted in Him, not in the world’s standards (your title, education, possessions, etc.)

Seek God’s Guidance: Seek God’s direction for your life. Trust that He has a unique plan for you.

Serve Others: Greatness in God’s kingdom is often found in serving others. Look for ways to bless and uplift those around you.

Stay Faithful: Persevere in your faith, even when the path is challenging. Remember that God equips those He calls.

We are collectively chosen to make a difference. Let us support and encourage one another in our individual and collective callings. Together, we can achieve great things for God’s kingdom. Embrace the truth that we are chosen for greatness. Let this knowledge inspire us to live boldly and faithfully, knowing that God has a purpose for each of us. May we shine His light brightly, bringing hope and love to all as we continually serve in the spirit of Christ.

Why Considering Senior Living Now Could Bring Comfort and Confidence Even in Uncertain Times

By Bonnie Polak, VP of Philanthropy and Community Engagement

If you’ve been thinking about what your next chapter might look like—and wondering if now is the right time to explore a Life Plan Community—you’re certainly not alone. With today’s shifting economy and ever-changing news cycles, feeling cautious is completely understandable.

For many older adults, choosing to move to a Life Plan Community can actually bring a sense of steadiness and peace of mind—emotionally, socially, and financially. During times of financial uncertainty, making a major move can feel overwhelming. That’s why it’s worth knowing how Life Plan Communities can offer more predictability and support. Things like the fixed monthly service fees make budgeting more
straightforward, helping to avoid surprise expenses. Also, many communities offer partially refundable entrance fees (often 50–85%), which help protect a portion of your investment.

Instead of managing unexpected home maintenance, and medical costs, or watching the markets with worry, you can have a more stable plan in place—one that includes housing, care, and lifestyle all in one.

But beyond finances, this is really about your life—your peace of mind, your community, and your day-to-day joy. Life Plan Communities are full of people who choose to live with purpose and connection. From chef-prepared meals to wellness programs, hobby groups to meaningful friendships, these communities are about much more than a place to live— they’re about how you want to live. Instead of worrying about
the news or what the market’s doing, you can focus on the good stuff—friendship, freedom, and fun.

You might be wondering, “Should I wait until the market gets better? ”Here’s a gentle reminder: the market may rise and fall, but your peace of mind shouldn’t have to. Choosing a Life Plan Community now gives you – control over your future, a clear financial plan (even during uncertain times) and a lifestyle filled with opportunity, not worry.

If this path feels worth exploring, call us today! The more you understand, the more empowered you’ll feel—whenever the time is right for you.

A New Main Entrance for a Better Experience!

By Bonnie Polak, VP of Philanthropy and Community Engagement

Exciting changes are coming! On March 11th we officially broke ground on a brand new main entrance, marking the beginning of an important transformation for our community. This project is designed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and create a more welcoming experience for all visitors.

“This project is about more than just a new entrance—it’s about making a lasting impact on how we serve our community,” said Garrett Lee, Trinity Woods CEO. “It is about recognizing a need, stepping up, and working together to create solutions that make things better not just for our current residents; but for people who will come in the future.”

During the special ceremony, leaders, employees, and community members gathered to celebrate this milestone. This is the first step in bringing the new main entrance of Trinity Woods to life, AND celebrating the power of collective giving and vision. With shovels in hand, we turned dirt for a brighter and safer future.

This project embodies the true spirit of philanthropy—giving back to our community and planning for generations to come. There is not a building on our campus that has been built without someone believing in our mission. That is what makes Trinity Woods so special – neighbor helping neighbor, for nearly 70 years.

This new entrance will feature modern design, improved signage, and position Trinity Woods as a gated community. Construction is expected to be completed by August, with efforts made to minimize disruptions during the process.

To all our donors and partners — thank you for believing in this vision. Your support ensures that this initiative will not only stand as a structure but as a symbol of collaboration, opportunity, and transformation. Through these gates people will come to be served in the spirit of Christ.

Stay tuned for progress updates and thank you for being part of this journey with us!

Finding Strength in Grief

By Weldon Tisdale, Chaplain

As we enter April, a month of renewal and reflection, and as we prepare for Easter, it is important to acknowledge the profound impact of grief on our lives. Grief is a powerful emotion that touches us all, and while it can be overwhelming, it also holds the potential for deep transformation and healing. One of the most poignant examples of grief in the Bible is the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Mary’s journey through grief is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. As the mother of Jesus, she experienced unimaginable sorrow as she witnessed the immeasurable suffering and crucifixion of her son. Yet, through her grief, Mary remained steadfast in her faith and trust in God’s plan.

In the Gospel of John, we read about Mary’s presence at the foot of the cross: “When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved (John) standing nearby, he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother’” – John 19:26-27. Even in His final moments, Jesus
acknowledged His mother’s grief and ensured she would be cared for. This act of love and compassion highlights the importance of community and support during times of sorrow.

Mary’s story reminds us that we are never alone in our grief. God is always with us, offering comfort and strength. As we navigate our own journeys through grief, we can find solace in the knowledge that God understands our pain and walks with us every step of the way. Grief, while painful, has the power to transform us in profound ways. It deepens our empathy, strengthens our resilience, and can bring us closer to God.

“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Helen Keller

As we enter April and as we rejoice in the resurrection story of Easter, let us carry with us the wisdom and strength of Mary. Remember to embrace our grief with faith, knowing that it is through these experiences that we learn to appreciate the preciousness of life, the importance of cherishing our loved ones and grow closer to God. Always remain open to the healing process and trust that, in time, we will find peace and renewal.

What Are You Waiting For?

By: Bonnie Polak, VP of Philanthropy and Community Engagement

As we age, our needs and desires change, making senior living communities an appealing option.
These vibrant communities offer social engagement, convenience, and support, allowing seniors
to truly thrive in their retirement years.

If you walk around the Trinity Woods campus you will hear words like ‘lucky’ or ‘blessed’ when people describe living here. What you will also hear is “I wish I had done it sooner.”

Residents often say that they thought Trinity Woods was a place you go when you “need” care. What they quickly learned was that this is a place you should “want” to go, long before you need any help. It’s a place to start really living and thriving again. They found a fulfilling new chapter.

Senior living communities are designed to promote independence while providing support where needed. With access to social events, wellness programs, and maintenance-free living, residents often experience a renewed sense of purpose and engagement.

Many find a sense of community – a real sense of belonging. For many seniors, loneliness can be a
challenge, but in a senior living community, residents enjoy a built-in social network. Activities like
game nights, fitness classes, and book clubs foster friendships and enrich lives.

“Engaging with people and activities provides opportunities for personal growth,” said Garrett
Lee, CEO. “Moving to Trinity Woods allows seniors to embrace a lifestyle filled with joy, connection,
and purpose.”

At Trinity Woods health and wellness are a priority. There are so many offerings from art classes, music performances, gardening, and life-long learning to keep residents mentally and physically
active.

Communities like Trinity Woods offer maintenance-free living and peace of mind for residents and their family. Everyone feels better knowing they are in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.

If you’ve been putting off the decision, ask yourself: What am I waiting for? Senior living offers freedom, fulfillment, and a future filled with possibilities. Don’t wait for circumstances to make the decision for you. Embrace the opportunity to enjoy your best years in a welcoming and enriching neighborhood like Trinity Woods.

Senior Living Communities Often Viewed as a Gift to the Children

“It’s the best gift my parents could have possibly given us at this stage of life.”

Comments like this are common among adult children whose parents live in continuing care retirement communities (CCRC), sometimes referred to as life plan communities.

Research reveals that family members who care for an aging loved one often experience clinically significant signs of depression, have less time available to spend with friends and other family members, and sacrifice financially by taking time away from their careers or retiring early.

It’s no wonder then that those whose parents are happily living in a continuing care retirement community consider it a gift. A study of 3,700 family members of CCRC residents revealed that 93% feel that the CCRC is providing good services to their loved ones and 77% would be likely or very likely to consider a CCRC for themselves in the future.

Cited as the most important features of the community were transportation services, availability of a fitness center, housekeeping services, walking or biking paths, emergency call systems, and the availability of assisting living and healthcare services.

Senior living communities have built-in safety features, such as security measures that operate around the clock.

Of course, whether you are considering a CCRC for yourself or a loved one, finding the right fit requires doing proper research and due diligence. Contract details and pricing can vary dramatically from one provider to another. It is important to be sure that the community you are considering is a good match
for your lifestyle, finances, and cultural preferences, and that it is well-managed, both operationally and financially.

Embracing The Shift Into Spring

By Weldon Tisdale, Chaplain

As we step into the month of March, we find ourselves on the cusp of spring; a season of renewal, growth, and transformation. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This verse beautifully encapsulates the essence of spring, a time when the world around us awakens from its winter slumber and bursts into life. The birds start singing a little
louder, the days grow a bit longer, and there’s a palpable energy in the air—an invitation for us to rejuvenate our spirits and embrace the new.

A Time for Renewal
Spring is a season of renewal. Just as the earth sheds its winter coat and adorns itself in vibrant hues, we too are invited to embrace change and new beginnings. Ecclesiastes 3:1 encourages us to recognize that every season has its purpose. As we transition into spring, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the past, let go of what no longer serves us, and make room for new growth.

A Time for Growth
With the arrival of spring, nature demonstrates the power of growth. Trees sprout new leaves, flowers bloom, and the days grow longer. This season reminds us that growth is a natural and essential part
of life. Ecclesiastes 3:1 teaches us that there is a time for everything, including a time to grow. Whether it’s personal development, nurturing relationships, or pursuing new goals, spring is the perfect time to cultivate growth in our lives.

A Time for Transformation
Spring is also a season of transformation. The world around us undergoes a remarkable change, and we are invited to do the same. Ecclesiastes 3:1 speaks to the cyclical nature of life and the importance
of embracing change. As we shift into spring, we can reflect on the areas of our lives that need transformation and take steps towards positive change.

Embrace the Season
As we welcome the month of March and the promise of spring, let’s take a moment to appreciate the wisdom of Ecclesiastes 3:1. This verse reminds us that every season has its purpose and that there is
beauty in the natural rhythms of life. Let’s embrace the opportunities for renewal, growth, and transformation that spring offers and step into this new season with hope and optimism.

Wishing you a joyful and transformative shift into spring!

March is Nation Nutrition Month

By Lupina Fry, Wellness Nurse

What does proper nutrition look like? Depending on factors like age, health history, and lifestyle choices, it can encompass a spectrum of dietary approaches. Some people need high-calorie or maybe low carb
options, some need protein-rich or low-sugar, or a diet high in fiber compared to one that is low – there are so many dietary options depending on what a person needs for their health. Good nutrition is a personal journey that varies for everyone.

For older adults, it becomes especially important to ensure proper nutrition. Having sufficient protein helps to maintain muscle mass and adequate calcium. Vitamin D aids strong bones, and a fiber rich
diet supports healthy digestion and bowel regularity. A well-balanced diet not only fuels the body but also provides the energy needed to thrive in activities of daily living.

Understanding how to meet your own nutritional needs while minimizing stress on your body is critical. For instance, individuals with chronic kidney disease need to be concerned about their protein sources, while those with osteoporosis must recognize that simply increasing calcium intake might not be enough. Furthermore, those managing hypertension should keep a close eye on their salt consumption, being mindful of recommended limits.

As the National Institutes of Health aptly put it, “Good nutrition essentially means giving your body the fuel it needs to function optimally.” March heralds National Nutrition Month, a special time
dedicated to raising awareness about the profound impact of good nutrition on our lives. This month I invite you to embrace healthy choices that can enrich your quality of life. It’s vital to engage in
meaningful conversations about your health goals with your doctor or a registered dietitian, no matter your age or when you decide to embark on a journey of seeking good nutrition.

At Trinity Woods, residents can consult with registered dietitian, Amber Carson. Amber has worked with the Trinity Woods dietary team for several years to ensure that nutritional needs are being met. She is available for free, one-on-one consultations every fifth Wednesday of the month. To schedule a visit with Amber during her next available date, please contact Lupina Fry, Wellness Nurse. Your journey to better nutrition could start right here!
